MAKE A DIFFERENCE

India is the biggest democratic country in the world with more than 1.2 billion people. Although India gained Independence over 72 years ago and many things have changed since, not the lives of the Dalits. Despite the fact that discrimination based on caste was outlawed by India’s constitution in 1950 (prior to this, the discrimination lasted 3000 years), the practice of ‘Untouchability ’still dictates the order of modern life of approximately 1.3 million people in India; they are known as the Dalits. The ways in which the Dalits are being discriminated; they are forced to live in separate settlements, prohibited from drawing water from the wells and worshipping in temples, and often their children are denied education, or made to sit in the back of the classroom. Dalits are subjected to rape, harassment, violence and murder.
We at ICI strive to change attitudes around this practice and to give the Dalit people what every human being deserves: to live free of discrimination, economically, socially and spiritually. We work closely with Light Homes as they work among various communities and do not discriminate based on caste, ethnicity, nationality, or religious identity.
You can be part of the great work that ICI doing by patnering with LIGHT HOMES in India by making tax deductible donations.
